BRAZIL

The biggest nation in both Latin America and South America is the Federative Republic of Brazil. Brazil is the world’s fifth-largest nation by area and the seventh-most populous country, with an area of 8.5 million square kilometers (3,300,000 square miles) and over 217 million inhabitants. Brazil uses a hybrid structure of public and private university funding. Federal or state funding for public colleges is an option (USP, Unicamp, and Unesp in the State of So Paulo, for example). Independent colleges and universities may be for-profit or, as is the case with Catholic institutions, non-profit. More than 20,000 foreign students are welcomed in the nation, and hundreds of English-taught courses are available, especially at universities in the well-known student hubs of So Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

Requirements for a bilateral exchange:

  • Apply with all the required documents:
  • PUC-Rio requires you to pay some administrative cost to cover the emergency responses and the socialization events organized by the university.
  • PUC-Rio also requires you to sit on the Portuguese placement test.
